What’s next for automotive nonwovens?

At the forthcoming EDANA International Nonwovens Symposium (INS) to be held online from June 9-10thSustainable Nonwovens consulting editor Adrian Wilson will outline the current threats and opportunities for automotive nonwovens.

Nonwovens have expanded rapidly in the automotive sector over the past two decades as automakers and their component suppliers have looked to decrease costs by reducing the weight of vehicles. The aim has largely been to lower fuel consumption and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and comply with new legislation.

The use of nonwoven fabrics in the European automotive industry alone grew by 11.3% per year between 2010 and 2015, despite the fact that the production of cars and light vehicles in Europe grew by only an average 1.3% annually in the same years.
