Danish study exposes flaws in textile recycling projections – Ecotextile News

COPENHAGEN – A new academic study on textile recycling in Denmark has concluded that while the European Union has mandated the separate collection of textiles from 2025 to boost recycling, less than 2% is suitable for high-quality recycling.

The research, ‘Assessing the circularity potential of textile flows for future markets in Denmark’, headed by Heather Margaret Logan from the Technical University of Denmark, argues that a garment’s anatomy, including zippers, buttons, linings, and fibre blends, dramatically complicates recycling and diverts a huge portion of collected clothing from being repurposed.
